NORTON'S BEST FRIEND FESTIVAL

KIDS FISHING DAY

June 19, 20109

Recently, the Little Stony Creek Chapter, for the third year in a row participated in the Best Friends Festival Kids Fishing Day at the Norton Reservoir.  The event was very successful with over 200 kids fishing for their 3 trout limit.  With lots of smiling faces and tired parents most children had landed their limit by the end of the day.

The Parks and Recreation Department of Norton gave away numerous prizes including bicycles, fishing equipment and tee shirts.  The Little Stony Creek Chapter help with providing prizes from Gander Mountain and chapter tee shirts.

The Chapter would like to thank all those that helped with the event to make it a successful and fun day.

NATURAL TUNNEL STATE PARK

KIDS FISHING DAY

April 24, 2010

The Little Stony Creek Chapter recently participated in the Natural Tunnel State Park Kids Fishing Day on Stock Creek in Scott County.  The event was successful with the weather holding back for a nice day of trout fishing.  Many kids turned out with poles in hand to land their limit of trout for the day.  Most all kids went home with a least one trout and big smiles on their face.  Any kid that did not get to catch a fish did not go home empty handed.  All kids that registered received a prize from Scott County Outdoorsmen, Appalachian Whitetail Association and the state park.

The Little Stony Creek Chapter participated in the event with help from Bruce Wankel of the Virginia Creeper Fly Shop.  Kids where taught knot tying skills, identifying aquatic insects and fly casting.  Any kid that took interest in learning the above skills was eligible to win a complete fly rod and reel set.
