St. Paul Elementary will be
raising Brook trout for the 2010-2011 school year.

The School year started off with
Mrs. Gross' 5th Grade class raising Brown trout.
Because of the rough winter and summer of the previous year
the brook trout eggs where not available when the program
kicked off.

The survival rate of the brown
trout eggs did not result in good numbers at the beginning.
That coupled with a tragic event that resulted in the death
of all the brown trout did not give the students a good
feeling. However the Marion Hatchery was good enough to
provide the school with a replacement of Brook trout.
They raised the Brook trout until
the release date and have a good survival rate with about
150 trout to release into Little Stony Creek on April 22.

The Brook Trout were released and successfully returned to the wild. The
Little Stony Creek Chapter of TU provided activities that
included Nature Hike, Fly Tying, Fly Casting and lunch.
The event was also showcased on WCYB TV-5's evening news
broadcast.
